About Tampa Bay Screen Enclosures

A guide to pool cages and screen enclosures in the Tampa Bay area of Florida: what it is, what happens to a quote request, and where the information on this site comes from.

What this site is

Tampa Bay Screen Enclosures is a guide to pool cages and screen enclosures for homeowners in Tampa Bay, FL. It covers the jobs a pool cage owner actually runs into: rescreening, torn panels, lanai and patio screens, new pool enclosures, doors, painting, gutters, storm damage and removal. The full list is on the services page. Pool decks, sunrooms and glass rooms are outside its scope.

How a quote request is handled

The form sends your request to this site by email, through FormSubmit, a form-handling service. It asks for four things: your name, a phone number, the property location and the kind of work.

Sending the form is free and commits you to nothing. Your details are not sold or put on a mailing list; the privacy policy explains exactly what is kept and how to have it deleted.

Checking a contractor yourself

Ask for the license number before you sign anything. Florida's Specialty Structure Contractor license is the category written for screened enclosures and pool enclosures. Locally, Hillsborough County issues an Aluminum Structure license, and contractors pulling permits in Pinellas County must be registered with the Pinellas County Construction Licensing Board. A few more checks worth making on any screen enclosure job:

  • Whether the job needs a permit at your address, and who will pull it
  • Which screen product goes in, by name and mesh count
  • For a new cage, that the plans are signed and sealed by a Florida engineer or architect
  • What the written quote includes: doors, kick plates, fasteners, haul-away
  • For HOA communities, whether architectural approval is needed first

Area covered

Six counties: Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Manatee, Sarasota, Hernando. That runs from Spring Hill and New Port Richey in the north, through Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater, to Bradenton, Sarasota, Venice and North Port in the south. Every town with its own page is on the service area page.

How the content is researched

Every rule, fee and price on this site comes from a published source, and older figures carry their date. The research draws on:

  • County and city building department exemption lists, checklists and fee schedules across all six counties
  • The Florida Building Code (2023, Section 2002 for aluminum screen enclosures) and the Florida Statutes, including chapter 515 on pool barriers
  • ASCE 7-22 hazard data and Pinellas County's local amendment for design wind speeds
  • National Hurricane Center storm reports and National Weather Service Tampa Bay county impact summaries for Milton, Helene, Ian and Idalia
  • Citizens Property Insurance and Florida Department of Financial Services documents on enclosure coverage
  • UF/IFAS Extension publications on lovebugs and mosquitoes, and manufacturer product pages for screen mesh
  • Published 2025 and 2026 price guides from Florida screen contractors, cited by region and date

Where a source does not say something, the site does not say it either. That is why, for example, the rescreen permit tables only list a no-permit rule for the departments that publish one. If you spot a rule that has changed, the contact form reaches the site.
